GoDaddy is the biggest name for both domain name and hosting industry. Hence, whether you are searching for a domain name or a hosting company, you will come across GoDaddy.
Here, I will give you some ideas why I like GoDaddy. If you have any questions feel free to contact me.
GoDaddy – The Biggest Name in the Industry
Being the leader in both the domain name and hosting arena is the biggest reason which pushed me towards GoDaddy. Till 2000, Network Solutions was the only place to register a domain name. In 2001, the domain name registration market opened for competition. In 2005, within 4 years GoDaddy surpassed Network Solutions as the largest domain name registrar. In 2010, GoDaddy was managing more than 45 million domain names with 4 times in size of the its nearest competitor.
I followed a very simple logic. If a company is growing at such a rapid rate, customers satisfaction is definitely playing a key role. With customer satisfaction, no company can grow. Hence, this in itself gives me an inclination towards GoDaddy.
All in one Package
GoDaddy gives the complete service for internet business. Domain name registration, web hosting, designing, email hosting, online storage. You name any web development related service, GoDaddy is giving the service. Not only this, most of these service all well-known in its class for excellent service. Hence, you don’t have to look for some new professionals every time you need a new web service.
Cheap Price
GoDaddy offers some of the cheapest rates in the industry. I would not suggest to take this point as seriously. As difference in prices would not affect much on your business. However, $ 1 offer of domain name registration by GoDaddy is no doubt the cheapest in the industry.
Update: Such deals you will hardly find now.
Infrastructure
GoDaddy hosts more than 5 million websites on 35,000 data centers. The company has more than 23 petabytes of data housed on its storage systems, and processes more than 350 million emails every day. GoDaddy resolves more than 10 billion DNS queries a day.
Naturally, it needs a heavy infrastructure to offer excellent service for such a big customer base. GoDaddy has 65,000 sq ft data center in The United States. Apart from three data centers in Phoenix, GoDaddy has data centers in Los Angeles, Chicago and Ashburn, Virginia, along with international facilities in Amsterdam and Singapore.
Update: In March 2018, AWS announced that GoDaddy is shifting its major infrastruture to AWS in multi-year deal. Domain management would still be with GoDaddy.
Upgradation Option
This is a very important thing I look while choosing a hosting company. A website at development stage or initial stage could be easily run on shared hosting plans. However, once it starts getting visitors and server load increases. It becomes impossible to continue the website on shared hosting. Then, the website needs VPS or dedicated hosting.
While choosing a hosting company, it should always be kept in mind that the website might need more power in the future. Hence, you should always choose a company which provides good service not just for shared hosting, but also for VPS and dedicated servers. GoDaddy no doubt is a trusted name for all these.
Will be in the market for long time
Many a times, small time reseller company closes their business without intimating. If a domain name reseller closes their business. The domain management could be shifted to any other company with some extra effort. However, if a hosting company pulls the plug without intimating, the amount of loss could be much devastating.
Hence, it is always recommended to avoid a reseller company and be associated with stable original companies like GoDaddy, which won’t just shut down its business overnight.
There is always an option of Change
Give GoDaddy a try. If you don’t find its service good you can always change your hosting or domain management company. Any how, you have to give any company a trial. Why not a reputed name, GoDaddy?
Give a trial for a month or two. If you don’t like the service, you can easily transfer your whole website setup to any new company.
Update: After 8 years of writing this article, for a newcomer, still my suggestion would be to go with a big company like GoDaddy. However, if you are little experienced or can handle minor technical, then go with specialized service provider for each requirement. Like GoDaddy for Domain purchase, Cloudflare for DNS Management, GoDaddy or HostGator for Shared Hosting, VPS Dime or Virpus for VPS, etc.
